Majestic Resorts, owner of Majestic Elegance Punta Cana, announced in a letter that the resort will close on Thursday and reopen in November. The resort states that low occupancy at its three locations in Punta Cana is the reason for the closure, citing a 60% drop in occupancy during the second half of August, September and October. After closing, all confirmed reservations will be diverted to Majestic Mirage Punta Cana, according to the company. Guests who have already made reservations or reservations will receive a room of equal or better quality at the Majestic Mirage Punta Cana.
Tammy Lawrence-Daley, 51, of Wilmington, alleges that during a vacation at Majestic Elegance Punta Cana with her husband, she was beaten and strangled unconscious in a maintenance closet by a man who, according to her, was wearing a Majestic Elegance employee uniform. After receiving negative press coverage and thousands of cancellation requests at its three resorts in Punta Cana, Majestic Resorts announced that it will close Majestic Elegance Punta Cana starting today (August). The Majestic Elegance Punta Cana Resort, in the Dominican Republic, will be temporarily CLOSED due to low occupancy. She reported that she was beaten and strangled several times until she lost consciousness at the Majestic resort in Punta Cana in January.
However, the Majestic Elegance Punta Cana also made news, after a woman claimed that a resort employee had brutally beaten her one centimeter from her life. According to the letter, occupancy at the three Majestic Resorts locations in Punta Cana was expected to fall below 60% in the second half of August, September and October. There is no apparent relationship between those deaths and any of the other incidents involving the Lawrence-Daley beating, and none of the deaths are related to the Majestic Elegance Punta Cana. Despite the increase in recent cancellations, Majestic Resorts states that it was able to maintain 60 percent occupancy at its resorts during the months of June, July and the first half of August, but the situation changed dramatically during the second half of August, as well as in September and October.
Guests who have booked trips will receive a room of equal or better quality at the Majestic Mirage Punta Cana.
